Kal Dorei
Kal-Dorei (Wood / Sylvan / Night Elves)A) History:
The Kal-Dorei are also known as the Wood, or Sylvan elves. Due to their long history, Kal-Dorei have very advanced civilizations and nature based technology. They believe they are the first sentient race to become self aware. During the height of their civilization, all Kal-Dorei were born, and lived as immortal beings. They reached adult hood as quickly as humans, and then never aged physically past 40 to 45 years old, even if they reached 20,000 years old and beyond. Kal-Dorei only died through violence. Their extended life was granted to them by the world tree, known as Yggdrassil.
However, during the invasion of the burning legion, Yggdrassil was accidentally destroyed by the Syn-Dorei (Blood / high Elves). As a result, all Dorei races lost their immortality and now live as long as mortal humans. In addition, all long lived races now have human life spans. However, all dorei still retain their youthful looks, and do not apparently age past 45. They still however, die of old age at about the age of 80-90. This has been an extremely difficult situation for all dorei to accept. when the first of the dorei elders started to die of old age, many dorei went mad with grief. Dorei graveyards are greatly regarded with superstition.
B) Role Playing:
There is some deviation from standard D&D description for wood elves. There are also some organizational differences that describe how Kal-Dorei interact in this world. Kal-Dorei have two major cities; Darnassus is the first one. It is located on an island north of kalimdor. The second and biggest kal-Dorei city is called Kal-Thaladrass. It is considered the capital, and greatest stronghold of Kal-Dorei history. It is located on the continent of Kalimor.
Prior to the war of the ancients, the Kal-Dorei were the sworn protectors of Yggdrassil. This long standing attitude has made all Kal-Dorei take on a personality that is very stoic and quite serious. Very rarely do Kal-Dorei find joy in humor, and they have little appreciation for merryment and jokes. However, among their most trusted allies and families, Kal-Dorei do open up and relax. Often times, a Kal-Dorei's demeanor can be described as someone who feels they carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. To some extent, this is somewhat true, because of the importance of finding a replacement for Yggdrassil. they have taken it upon themselves to join the federation, in defense of their homelands against the forces of the Orcish hordes, and what they believe are the orc's demonic allies.
When Kal-Dorei interact with strangers, they are often aloof, and use their words carefully. They say exactly what they mean, with as little words as possible. They always begin their conversations with strangers with the word "Vin Du-ee", which in dorei means "greetings traveler". When they end their conversations, they always say "gron Du-ee", which in dorei means "farewell Traveler". some non elven people know what these words mean, even if they don't speak dorei. however, if it is apparent that whom the Kal-Dorei is speaking to doesn't understand, they'll say their meaning in a language that the other party understands.
Kal-Dorei are very proud of their heritage, and the choices that their ancestors made during the war of the ancients. in particular, Kal-Dorei often regard their siege of Silvermoon and Quel-Danas as the only viable options during the war of the ancients, and often talk about those events as if they just happened. In particular, they fully support the slaughter of the Syn-Dorei, who where responsible for the death of the world tree, Yggdrassil. Kal-Dorei regard Syn-Dorei with extreme hostility and prejudice. typically, but not always, Kal-Dorei will attack Syn-Dorei on sight. This cannot be role played any other way. Kal-Dorei regard the Syn-Dorei as the enemies of the world.
