Quel Dorei
Quel-Dorei (Grey / Sundered Elves)A) History:The Quel-Dorei are also known as the Grey, or sundered elves. Quel-Dorei are considered to be among the most physically attractive beings in the realm.
After the invasion of the burning legion, and the subsequent destruction of the world tree, the quel-Dorei were able to preserve an uncorrupted shard of a seedling spirit of yggdrassil. Unfortunately, the shard was not enough to grow a new world tree. In Quel-Danas, the Grey Elf capital of the world, The Quel-Dorei used the shard to create a powerful fountain of magical water. it came to be known as the sunwell. Their intention was to guard and preserve the sunwell, until such time that a complete seedling of yggdrassil could be found, and grow strong enough to be infused with yggdrassil's spirit which resided within the sunwell.
Part of the agreement that the quel-Dorei and Syn-Dorei had, was that the Quel-Dorei would extend their protection to the Syn-Dorei, so long as they swore to never use magic within the city gates or in Quel-Dorei lands. After a few centuries of cohabitating with the Quel-Dorei and slowly repopulating their numbers, the Syn-Dorei became obsessed with revenge against the Kal-Dorei. They also began to grow sick from not being able to use magic. Through secret rituals, the Syn-Dorei came to believe that all dorei people could regain their immortality if they drank from the waters of the sunwell. The Quel-Dorei refused to allow them to try. as a result, the Syn-Dorei raised arms against their Quel-Dorei hosts. During the surprise attack, the Quel-Dorei were completely surprised and overwhelmed. They were too trusting of the Syn-Dorei and as a result, the Quel-Dorei that inhabited Quel-Danas were nearly completely killed. The sentries of Quel-Danas was no match for the rage of the Syn-Dorei, who took the control of the city within 6 hours. all Quel-Dorei heads of state were executed, and replaced by syn-Dorei leadership.
Only a small handful of Quel-Dorei people escaped the Quelling of Quel-Danas to warn the rest of their race, and the Federation, and the insurrectionists alike of the Blood Elves' treachery. One by one, The Syn-Dorei siezed control of all Quel-Dorei cities, but did not rename the cities with a "Syn" prefix. The reconstituted Syn-Dorei armies marched upon the Quel-Dorei capital city of Quel-Danas, to secure it until Syn-Dorei sages could figure out how to enter the sunwell's chamber. The syn-Dorei had nothing standing in their way to experiment with the Sunwell, until the human arch-mage, antonidas - leader of the Kirin-Tor mage order of Dalaran, teleported into the vicinity with his vanguard mage knights. Antonidas and his forces were able to easily drive back the power hungry syn-Dorei army. For a time, the Quel-Dorei would no peace.
Despite the help of antonidas, the quel-Dorei did not have the numbers to take back their other Elven cities. As such, they came to call themselves the Sundered elves, as remembrance for the betrayal and separation they had to endure at the hands of the Syn-Dorei that betrayed them.
B) Role Playing:
The permeating feeling among all grey elves, is that they feel that they've been betrayed by their own kin. To prevent their systematic genocide, the grey elves opened their city gates to High elven refugees. This act of good will made the wood elves come to their senses, and snap out of their rage and desire for vengeance. Many justify the Wood elven disposition, because the high elves destroyed yggdrassil, thus damning all long lived races. This attitude is one that lives on in all grey elves today. They will extend kindness to those who are weak, or being persecuted, whether their persecution is justified or not.
As time passed, the high elven refugees were hungry for mana, so they eventually overthrew their grey elven hosts. As a result, the grey elves were removed from their own cities. Their leadership was killed, and now the grey elves wander from town to town, looking for a place to call home. As a result of the betrayal against them, grey elves have adopted the moniker, sundered elves. There are reports for grey elves finally being able to organize into their own cities, but they still have a long way to go. Because of the betrayal of high elves, and also because they shielded the high elves from the wood elves, the grey elves are generally at odds with both of their kin. They find refuge in their own small communities, or among human independent settlements. They otherwise do not have a racial leader, or organization of any kind.
Despite their exile from their own home cities, all grey elves are exceptionally good looking, and they know it. coupled with being among the most intelligent races in the realm, their innate talents and appearance gives them an air of confidence that is undeniable.
